Farming with Carnivores Forum: January 13 at 11:00 AM

Come join us as two of our leading farmers, two experts on Guardian dogs, and myself will present an interactive discussion . The farmers will share their experiences with carnivores and the animal husbandry practices they use to successfully live with them. The Guardian dog experts will share important information regarding the use of these special dogs on the farm.

This program is participating in a collaboration with other events for the children, in celebrating Maine Day. How do our children come to understand and respect our reclusive keystone carnivore, Coyote? They become coyotes! They become coyote parents, and coyote pups and create their own territories, along with the life they lead there. And of course…..they create their own howl! The children love it.
Book signing Celebration: March 24 from 5:30 to 8:00 PM

Come join us as we celebrate my newly published book I Am Coyote.
Maine’s celebrated artist Evelyn Dunphy will join me, sharing her beautiful watercolors inspired by specific events in my book. And we will be delighted by the beautiful Coyote music composed by Elizabeth Starr, along with spirited Celtic music of her fellow musicians.

Location: Ellsworth Public Library, 20 State Street, Ellsworth, Maine
This is a special event celebrating the 100 Anniversary of Acadia National Park, and Ellsworth Library is partnering with them in the celebration. And of course, Coyote is an important part of that celebration….for they have brought wild music back to a once silent National Park. I will be having a book signing of my newly published book, I Am Coyote there right after my talk.
How can our Maine Land Trusts teach their Communities about Coyote? April 22 from 1:00 to 4:00PM
Hosted by the Maine Land Trust Conference. Location: Harpswell Heritage Land Trust Center, 153 Harpswell Neck Road, Harpswell, Maine. This will be a first of its kind workshop for our Land Trusts! It is meant to support our Land Trusts in their educational endeavors, teaching community members all about Coyote history and ecology, and their role as the keystone carnivore in Maine. But that is not all, those in attendance will have the opportunity to participate in an experience in Nature, that they can take home with them….and share with their communities.
Why do we need Carnivores Anyway? April 26 at 7:00 PM
Hosted by the York County Audubon. Location: Wells Reserve at Laudholm, 342 Laudholm Road, Wells, Maine. This presentation presents in story form and scientists’ research findings the importance of carnivores on the landscape, and how they affect ecosystem communities in important ways. We will travel from Alaska to the North Atlantic on this journey.

This is a great time to share Coyote history and ecology. Coyote pups are being born at this time of the year, and their parents may be more readily seen now. They are very busy seeking food for their growing little ones.

I am pleased to be joining Jan Dohner and Stuart Richens who are experts on Kangal dogs here in America. It is a joint effort to share knowledge about this important guardian dog breed, and how these dogs can participate in carnivore conservation
Coyote Experience for 3rd graders at Lebanon School: May 24 from 1:00 PM to 3:15 PM
The third graders at Lebanon School have been studying all about wolves. Now all 85 of these wonderful children will have the opportunity to get to know Coyote through a creative experience that will get them so excited every time they hear their Coyote’s howling in their forest.
Special Luncheon Event ~ I Am Coyote. June 29 at 11:30 AM
Savory Maine Restaurant, a unique and special eatery will host a special celebration of my newly published book I Am Coyote. As you enjoy their mouth watering luncheon, you will be serenaded by the music of Maine composer and musician Elizabeth Starr. Then as you delight in your dessert and coffee I will share some special thoughts about my book, followed by a book signing as well. Location: 11 Water Street, Damariscotta, Maine.

Coyote and the Boy Ben Puppet Show. July 15 at 11:00 AM
Hosted by Thomaston Public Library. Location: 60 Main Street, Thomaston, Maine. This beautiful story honors the oral history passed down by our Native Peoples regarding their relationship with Coyote, especially Coyote’s benevolence to their children. At the same time, it expresses the close family bonds within the Coyote family.

Hosted by the Knox-Lincoln County Soil and Water Conservation District, during their day long New Farmers Workshop. Location: Aldemere Farm, 70 Russell Avenue, Rockport, Maine
This all day workshop is happening on the grounds of the farm, not inside, and so my presentation just supports new farmers understanding that their farm is an “ecosystem,” and therefore, all the members of that community need to be present.

I am joined by delightfully accomplished author, Maria Gianferrari, whose beautifully illustrated child’s book titled Coyote Moon has been newly published. It will be a Celebration! We will be joined by Maine’s talented composer musician Elizabeth Starr, performing her original Coyote music. Both Maria and I will share what inspired us to write our books, and then we will share special excerpts. Come join us!

Come join us as we share together knowledge and skills of farming peacefully with carnivores. Our panel of four will include David Kennard, experienced farmer and owner of a well established fencing company in new Hampshire, Billy Foster of Foster Farm who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to share, Jan Dohner, farmer and author of excellent books on guardian animals, and myself. Last year the tent was packed!
